The Chestnut Stables are proud to be an official BHS Pony Stars Junior Challenge Awards Approved Centre.

We deliver The British Horse Society (BHS) programme which aims to help children aged 5–12 years discover, develop, and nurture their love for ponies and the outdoors.

With over 100 topics for children to explore, Pony Stars will ignite a passion for ponies, build knowledge and cement friendships that will last a lifetime.

As part of the programme, each child will receive their very own My Challenge Book to log their achievements. As they progress through the various challenges there will be stickers, badges, and rosettes up for grabs too to keep them engaged and motivated.

With four key groups, Pony Stars enables long-term progression with a range of activities that will develop knowledge, skills, and self-confidence. In each group your child will work through sets of challenges that make up topics within set themes.

🐴 How to Get Involved

At The Chestnut Stables, our Saturday morning Young Riders Club follows the full BHS Pony Stars syllabus and runs year-round in 8-week terms. Open to children aged 5 to 12, each session is packed with hands-on learning, riding, and pony care activities in a friendly, supportive group setting.

• 🕙 Saturdays from 10:00am
• 📅 Runs in 8-week blocks – View term dates and course terms & conditions
• 🐎 Children are grouped by riding level
• 🤝 Sessions are led by staff with equine qualifications and industry experience, supported by our enthusiastic Stirrup Club youth helpers
• 🌱 A fun, safe environment for building skills, confidence, and pony knowledge

💰 Prices:

• £36 per week when booked as a term
  Includes a 30-minute group ridden session and a 30–90 minute pony care session (duration varies by age and group)
• Pay-as-you-go (PAYG) spaces may be available at a slightly increased rate — subject to availability
• One-off £30 enrolment fee
  This covers your child’s official BHS Pony Stars pack, including their My Challenge Book, badge folder, and starter materials
• Optional £25 equipment hire fee
  Covers a safety-standard riding hat and boots for the full course duration
